Josh Rucci, Strength Coach

Rucci starting working with Jarryd Wallace in the fall of 2008, working on alternate ways to keep him as strong and mobile as possible while battling through surgeries.
Over the past four years that Rucci has worked with Jarryd, they have been able to develop new ideas and techniques to suit Jarryd, while constantly learning from each other. When asked about Rucci, Jarryd says, "I am so blessed to have an opportunity to work with a not only an amazing strength coach, but an amazing person. Josh has become more like a brother to me and he constantly challenges me to become better each day." Josh Rucci, a strength and conditioning coach who joined the staff at The University of Georgia in January 2006, brought a wealth of experience to Athens, including a stint as an intern with the Chicago Bulls. From 2004-05, Rucci was a volunteer student assistant with the strength and conditioning program while an undergraduate at Bowling Green, working primarily with football and hockey. A native of Chicago, Rucci then completed a seven-month internship with the Bulls and helped the team to its second straight play-off appearance. In 2006, Rucci came to UGA as a graduate assistant. He coordinated the strength and conditioning efforts for cross country, both golf programs and assisted with basketball, swimming & diving and gymnastics. In 2010, Rucci earned a full time position with UGA and currently coordinates strength and conditioning programs for baseball, women’s gymnastics, and women’s basketball. Along with his UGA responsibilities, Rucci also works with several professional baseball players and has coordinated programs for various track and field athletes, including Laron Bennett and Jarryd Wallace. Rucci is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He received his bachelor’s as an Exercise Specialist in the Kinesiology program from BGSU in 2005 and his master’s in Motor Behavior from UGA in 2008. He is married to the former Bridget Berish and they reside in Athens, Georgia. |
